Two children are dead and 14 more have been injured by a tragic shooting that took place at a Minneapolis Catholic school during morning mass. Democrats want to make this tragedy about gun control; Republicans want to make it about mental health and the transgender community (the shooter was allegedly transgender). In the midst of tragedy, people tend to point fingers and look for answers. We, as a society, take sides and argue with each other. But, I repeat: two children are dead and 14 are injured.
Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that there is a time for everything we face in life, including weeping and mourning (v. 4). As we recently saw in Romans 12, Paul urges his readers to, “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep,” (v. 15). We are allowed to have our feelings of anger, sadness, frustration, etc., but pointing fingers rarely accomplishes anything. As we see the evil that happens in this world, let us remember Paul’s words in Ephesians 6:12: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Evil forces are at work in this world; it is clearly evident. Please remember to pray for our children, our schools, the faculties and staff members, and our local law enforcement officers. And pray for those directly impacted by this most recent tragedy.
Blessings,
Pastor Zach
