The Month of Weddings

As I type this, I should probably be getting ready for a wedding that Mae and I are attending today (May 28) near our old Chemung stomping grounds. Of course, June is known for being the most popular month for weddings to occur. Mae and I have never really been one for trends, hence we got married in December! But all this wedding talk reminds me of one very special marriage feast that is yet to come.

The Bible likens the Church to many things, one of which is the Bride of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:25-32). In Revelation 19:6-9, we get a glimpse of how awesome the coming marriage festivities will be:

Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” And he said to me, “These are true words of God.”

As we wait for this day to come, notice that we are to be clothing ourselves with righteous acts. These acts are not to gain our salvation, for that was purchased on the cross, but to help prepare us for living eternally with our Holy Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. I truly hope you have your invitation to the wedding, that you have R.S.V.P.’d, and that you are preparing yourself (through the power of the Spirit) for that glorious, heavenly event!

Blessings! Pastor Zach
