Seasons

As we enter the month of May, we are beginning to have more days of beautiful sunshine. Along with that sunshine we are beginning to see grass grow, trees regain their leaves, and flowers poke their heads through the soil. It can sometimes feel like it takes too long for Spring to truly arrive in upstate New York, but when it does, it is an absolutely beautiful season of the year. Of course, we know that it is just that, a season. Seasons come and go and come again. Seasons remind us that God is keeping this world in motion, but they also remind us that not everything lasts forever…except for one very special thing!

In 1 Peter 1:22-25, the apostle writes:

22  Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart,  23  for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.  24  For,

“ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS,
AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS,
AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF,
25  BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.”

And this is the word which was preached to you. Peter, quoting from the book of Isaiah, reminds us that, while our physical bodies may wither away just like grass and flowers, our spiritual bodies have become new creations born of the imperishable seed of God’s Word. So, while we might be able to enjoy the beauty of Spring for only a short time, we have all of eternity to wonder at the beauty of God and His Holy Word!
